One of my best-selling books, and one of my personal favorites, is The Non- Designer's Design Book. I worked with my friend and professional web designer John Tollett* on a companion to this book:

The
Non-Designer’s
Web Book

This is a book written for all the people who have an interest in the web and think they might like to have a page or two up there, but feel a little intimidated about the process. It's not meant for high-end designers, because there are already lots of books for them. It's meant for students, for the church secretary, for the scout troop leaders, for the school teachers, for the grandparents who are making a family history web site, for the small business owner who can't justify the cost of a professional, for my mom, for the millions of people who have discovered a graphic knack inside of themselves and feel that with a little bit of a push they could probably do something really nice on the web. It's also for all the programmers who think they are web designers. Feel free to check out the Table of Contents.
